New Book: “Frank & Sherri’s House Colors”

True tales from the houses of second chances — and the proven business model behind them

It’s almost here β€” twenty true stories from ten years of building homes for people the world had decided were disposable. We disagreed, we kept receipts, and we wrote down the embarrassing parts. This is the good: more than 1,000 people housed since 2015 in eight recovery homes we own in the Seattle area. This is the funny: the stove we were too polite to open, the lender who accepted a Home Depot card as proof of funds, the seller who simply said okay. And this is the we-thought-we’d-seen-everything: a miniature horse that is, under federal law, a service animal.

We’re Frank and Sherri, founders of Kate’s House Foundation®. Every story is true, every house is real, and this page is where the book’s color photos, videos, and episodes live β€” the parts a printed page can’t hold.

No one is disposable.

WHAT’S HERE

The color versions of every photo in the book · the karaoke ballroom footage we referenced under oath · house tours · each story told out loud on the podcast as episodes release · and the free class where the lessons behind these stories actually get taught.

Or simply join the free community at my.frankandsherri.com and watch for a season. There’s no hurry here. Crockpot, not microwave.

Be first to read it

Leave your email and we’ll write to you the day “House Colors” releases — and along the way, new episodes and the stories that didn’t make the book. A note when there’s something worth reading. That’s the whole arrangement.

The Color Versions

In the book, every house is gray. But our houses are named by their colors — so here’s the cast in person, chapter by chapter, and here’s why they have names.

The Red House β€” Kate's House Foundation's first home

PrologueThe Golden Girls

Where it all started — the Red House, actually red, the former priest who asked for the address, and the first three women who became the Golden Girls.

G2 — the second gray house, the eleven-second question, and the seller who said okay.

The Coffee House

Ch. 7The Coffee House (in Three Acts)

A Chief Medical Officer, business casual, a brand-new Tesla, and a kitchen full of cockroaches. He asked for the address and nothing else.

The Whole Block

Ch. 8The Whole Block

Sherri calls it a vision. The neighbors call it a rumor. Our accountant calls it Tuesday.

Ch. 9The $900 Bedroom

$900 of lumber and paneling, one proper egress window — the cheapest square footage you’ll ever add.

The Beach Chair Method

Ch. 10The Beach Chair Method

Finding your next neighborhood without leaving the chair. The secret indicator is a Starbucks.

A Dog... or a Miniature Horse

Ch. 11A Dog… or a Miniature Horse

Under federal law, a service animal is a dog — or this. We just measure the doorways.

The Torture Chart

Ch. 12The Torture Chart

We built the perfect chore chart. Our residents voted it down. The houses have never been cleaner.

Tires Squealing

Ch. 13Tires Squealing

Another operator delivering a “wonderful referral” to the newbies. You can almost hear the high-fives.

He said California. He was in Abu Dhabi. Four years later, still the best hire we never met.

Eight Hundred Doors

Ch. 18Eight Hundred Doors

Zero to 800 “doors” in four years. Her words: “I forgot my children’s names.” We chose eight beds instead.

Five and a Half Weeks

Ch. 19Five and a Half Weeks

The elevator, Kauai, and the trivia nobody won — the answer wasn’t even a whole number.

Everybody Got It That Way

Ch. 20Everybody Got It That Way

Yes, the ballroom video exists. Nobody planned it that way. Everybody got it that way.

If the stories made you wonder

Some people read the book and simply know a little more about how the world can work. Some join the free community and watch for a season. Some show up at a monthly meeting or the free class and start asking the questions that feel impolite and are simply unfamiliar. Both are good, and there’s no hurry — the mission is one thousand quality homes, and it’s built one right season at a time.
